It’s fun to shake up classic recipes with an unexpected twist. A dash of turmeric and lime juice turn regular French toast into an inspiring flavor experience.

½ cup milk
2 teaspoons turmeric
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon butter
4-6 slices of brioche bread (stale)
Juice of 1 lime
Powdered sugar for dusting
Zest of 1 lime
In a medium bowl, whisk together egg, milk and spices.
Melt butter in a grill pan or cast iron skillet over medium-low heat. Once melted, quickly dip both sides of a slice of bread in the egg mixture (don’t soak bread), and place in the pan. Repeat with each slice of bread. Sprinkle lime juice on the slices while they cook.
Grill each side of the bread until golden brown, about 4-7 minutes. Transfer to serving plates.
Once the toast is done, dust with powdered sugar and lime zest. Serve immediately.
